The Hope of Advent

Isaiah 2:1-5

This is what Isaiah, Amoz’s son, saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

In the days to come
    the mountain of the Lord’s house
    will be the highest of the mountains.
    It will be lifted above the hills;
        peoples will stream to it.
Many nations will go and say,
“Come, let’s go up to the Lord’s mountain,
    to the house of Jacob’s God
        so that he may teach us his ways
        and we may walk in God’s paths.”
Instruction will come from Zion;
    the Lord’s word from Jerusalem.
God will judge between the nations,
    and settle disputes of mighty nations.
Then they will beat their swords into iron plows
    and their spears into pruning tools.
Nation will not take up sword against nation;
    they will no longer learn how to make war.

Come, house of Jacob,
    let’s walk by the Lord’s light.

Happy Friday everyone!
This coming Sunday we will be taking a break from the Lectionary, and will be focusing on Hope and Gratitude. This will be a wonderful way to bridge our movement into Advent, as we focus on Waiting with Hope.

I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday with those you love yesterday, and have delicious left-overs to still enjoy today!

We start the treasured season of Advent this Sunday, November 30th. Advent is a rich season that calls us to pause, slow down, ponder, reflect, and lean into a theme of active waiting- waiting on God, His promises that will come to fruition, and be reminded that Jesus did come, and will return.

Advent is a time to embrace waiting with God's hope, joy, love, and peace. Embracing is a verb that depicts welcoming someone or something. May we do this especially during the season of Advent.

We will be reading through Isaiah this Advent. This Sunday, Isaiah 2:1-5 will be the sermon passage text. Isaiah's words from God are just as relevant to us now as they were to God's people who heard them approximately 2500 years ago. We will also share communion this week and reflect on God's wonderful gift of salvation, forgiveness, and freedom, given to us in His Son, Jesus. See you Sunday,
Pastor Kari
