Transfiguration

Luke 9:28-36

28 About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. 29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. 31 They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. 32 Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. 33 As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)

34 While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.” 36 When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what they had seen.

Hello NewDay brothers and sisters!

I hope your week has gone well, and your month for that matter. It's February 28th, and that means Spring is officially getting closer. :)
As Lent is quickly approaching, we are begin to prepare for the 6 week time before Easter, and this time is also one that offers reflection and a rich opportunity to pause, be still and allow Jesus' love and life to be even more present with us.
This Sunday we will read about the Transfiguration in Luke 9: 28-36. As I read the account from Luke's Gospel this week, one thing stood out from another scholar- Jesus brought his disciples up on the mountain to pray. And, the disciples are privy to quite a summit meeting- between Moses, Elijah and Jesus together. I bet they never saw that coming! The conversation they observed was regarding Jesus' departure, as Luke wrote, "which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem." (v31) Jesus was being faced with the timing and reality of the fulfilment of His purpose- to save the world, through the giving of His very life, and the timing and details were being conveyed in this heaven on earth meeting. I am struck by the intentionality of Jesus, our LORD and Savior preparing through prayer. He models this to us. He is God! And, He prayed- sought the comfort, help, guidance and empowerment from God the Father to finish what He was called to do.
I wonder as you all read and prepare for Sunday what details or thoughts about this passage will be important to you as well, and stand out?

I want to encourage you all to be praying, and seeking the LORD as well. Jesus did it! And, so must we.
Tomorrow, MARCH 1  there will be an international day of Prayer, started by the IF movement. I have been following this on the YouVersion App, and am sharing here as well. I invite you to be in prayer for our world, our churches, and the mission Jesus invites us on- to love others, serve others, and invite others into relationship with Him. For our NewDay community, the Search Committee, our neighborhood and what we are called to do as a church- all these things, be praying.

As we anticipate Jesus' return someday, may we as brothers and sisters in Christ throughout our world, be praying together for His return, and for His church to do what He has called us to do. As we have learned through Practicing the Way: Become Like Jesus, Be With Jesus, Do as He did.

Also, please pray for Pastor Steve and Judy Eng, Matt and Jenny- Judy's mom, Pearl Norby, passed away this past week, at the age of 96. She loved Jesus, and lived an amazing life.
Her service will be March 23, at NewDay, 2 pm. Stay tuned for details.
