The Path Before Us: Flaming Hearts Fellowship

This week we are looking at four verses related to ministry motivated by our passion for God’s Word and Spirit at work in us.

  • Share a special moment/opportunity that uniquely motivated you. What was different about this time in your life compared to a “normal” day? What aspect of the opportunity/circumstance was energizing for you?

  • Jeremiah was a prophet among false prophets. Others were prophesying of good times ahead, that all would be OK and that everyone should keep on doing what they were doing. Jeremiah was ostracized for sharing God’s Word of punishment and banishment from the kingdom of God if repentance and obedience to God were not observed. Encouraged to recant God’s message Jeremiah replied in Chapter 20 verse 9, “But if I say, ‘I will not mention his word or speak any more in his name,’ his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.”

    • What does it take to have God’s Word “in our heart.”

    • Is it possible to have God’s Word but not be passionate about it? Examples?

    • What does it take to have God’s Word “go out” from us? Who specifically is your audience?

  • Luke 24:32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” This scripture reminds us there are times in fellowship with one another that God reminds us of His work, Word and power in us.

    • Share a time when someone encouraged you in your ministry.

    • What ministry gift(s) do you see in someone in your group? (include everyone )

  • Psalm 104:4 He makes his messengers winds, his servants flames of fire.

    • In what ways are we God’s messengers? How are we His servants?

    • We are not just messengers, we are “wind messengers.”  We are not just servants, we are “fiery servants.” What is it about being a Christian that makes us “windy and fiery?”

  • 2 Timothy 1:6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

    • Paul’s letter to Timothy is very personal and very powerful. Paul is writing from prison, anticipating his death and thus encourages this brother in Christ.

      • From this verse what evidence is there of Paul and Timothy’s partnership in faith?

      • Discuss the outcome of their fellowship? What changes in their life? How is God involved?

      • Discuss the seriousness of Paul’s reminder to Timothy. What should Timothy and we guard against?
