Built For More: Surrender

Luke 9:51-62 [CEB]

51 As the time approached when Jesus was to be taken up into heaven, he determined to go to Jerusalem. 52 He sent messengers on ahead of him. Along the way, they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his arrival, 53 but the Samaritan villagers refused to welcome him because he was determined to go to Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to consume them?” 55 But Jesus turned and spoke sternly to them, 56 and they went on to another village.

57 As Jesus and his disciples traveled along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”

58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and the birds in the sky have nests, but the Human One[a] has no place to lay his head.”

59 Then Jesus said to someone else, “Follow me.”

He replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead. But you go and spread the news of God’s kingdom.”

61 Someone else said to Jesus, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say good-bye to those in my house.”

62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts a hand on the plow and looks back is fit for God’s kingdom.”

NewDay Online Giving: https://newday.churchcenter.com/giving

This Sunday, June 29th we will celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion together, as brothers and sisters in Christ. At NewDay, we do this every month, and it is a special time to remember, reflect and rejoice in the free gift of Salvation Jesus offers to us, His completed work on our behalf, on the cross, and the reminder that He has left us the reminders of bread and wine (juice) for us to proclaim His death, and celebrate His victory over death, until He comes again.

We are continuing through the Lectionary readings each week, and this week will be Luke 9, where Jesus is talking to His disciples about what it will cost to follow Him. Obedience in discipleship, and the reality of the joys, and shared suffering while following Jesus are all part of the journey. Usually when we are going to purchase something, or do something, it is wise to count the cost, to see if we are able to do it? Jesus also tells us that we need to know the cost of following Him, which also has returns for eternity. It is worth it all. We will be diving into what this looks like on Sunday.

After worship, please plan to go prayer walking through the neighborhoods, for our neighbors around the cabin, and placing invites for the Pot-Luck and Intergenerational VBS that we will have on July 6 and Aug. 10th.

See you Sunday!
In Christ, PKari
