The Rich Man and Lazarus
Luke 16:19-31 [CEB]
19 “There was a certain rich man who clothed himself in purple and fine linen, and who feasted luxuriously every day. 20 At his gate lay a certain poor man named Lazarus who was covered with sores. 21 Lazarus longed to eat the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table. Instead, dogs would come and lick his sores.
22 “The poor man died and was carried by angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 While being tormented in the place of the dead, he looked up and saw Abraham at a distance with Lazarus at his side. 24 He shouted, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me. Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I’m suffering in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your lifetime you received good things, whereas Lazarus received terrible things. Now Lazarus is being comforted and you are in great pain. 26 Moreover, a great crevasse has been fixed between us and you. Those who wish to cross over from here to you cannot. Neither can anyone cross from there to us.’
27 “The rich man said, ‘Then I beg you, Father, send Lazarus to my father’s house. 28 I have five brothers. He needs to warn them so that they don’t come to this place of agony.’ 29 Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets. They must listen to them.’ 30 The rich man said, ‘No, Father Abraham! But if someone from the dead goes to them, they will change their hearts and lives.’ 31 Abraham said, ‘If they don’t listen to Moses and the Prophets, then neither will they be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.’”

Hello NewDay brothers and sisters,
I hope this week has been good to you, and you have experienced the blessings of the LORD this week in your relationships, your work, schooling, and wherever your feet have taken you! If the week has been a difficult one, I also pray that you will have some time to rest and be cared for this weekend.
We will celebrate Communion this Sunday. Please take time to reflect on your walk with the LORD, ask Jesus to show you His love for you, which was proven by His blood, shed on the cross.
Ask Him to show you areas/people/places and things that you need to bring to Him, for His Forgiveness and Help.
One of my grandmas had a saying that I often have run across my mind: "It will all come out in the wash." The phrase "it will all come out in the wash" comes from "he literal practice of laundry, where imperfections or stains that might be hidden at first are revealed after the clothes are cleaned and dried. This idiom was first recorded in a work by Migue de Cervantes, called Don Quioxte (1605), where a character says, "all will away in the bucking," referring to the process of bleaching cloth with lye. Figuratively, the idiom means that a hidden problem or truth will become clear, or that a situation will eventually resolve on its own over time, like a hidden stain emerging after a wash."
On Sunday, we will be learning together from Luke 16:19-31, the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus. This is an example story technically, shared by Jesus to get our attention first of all, and uses a very real situation to compel us to reflect and act.
The story has contrast/comparison in it and is an example story, that causes us to pause, consider how we live our lives on this earth, what we do with our possessions, time and wealth, and also who we see "outside of our gates." This story also reminds us that God is just and there will be justice for for us in heaven, and that there are eternal consequences for our rejection of Him, and not loving or caring for those in our midst.
This Sunday we wll also have a NewDay Family Meeting after worship, and hear from the Leadership Team and Search Committee about the process thus far, as well as have opportunities to share written or verbal feedback on NewDay, and where we are at in this in between time as a church, seeking a full time pastor.
Please make every effort to stay and be present this Sunday. We can also email information if you are not able to attend.
Have a beautiful sun/Son filled weekend!
In Christ,
Pastor Kari
