25 The Lord God proclaims: When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they’ve scattered, and I demonstrate my holiness through them in the sight of the nations, they will live on their fertile land, which I gave to my servant Jacob. 26 They will live on it in safety. They will build houses, plant vineyards, and live in safety.

Ezekiel – Acknowledge the Lord

Ezekiel’s birth year and call to be the mouthpiece of the Lord is well detailed in this book. Born in Judah in 623 B.C. Ezekiel was 18 years old when Egypt conquered Judah in 609 B.C. Just four years later Babylon took Judah by force and brought many Jews, including Ezekiel, into Babylon. This was the first exile. Judah rebelled a few years later only to be defeated again. Babylon then took many Jewish leaders and craftsmen back to Babylon. This was the second exile.
Ezekiel’s call as a prophet began in Babylon and his message was given to the Jews in exile. Of note, most of Ezekiel’s prophecies related to what was happening in Jerusalem not in Babylon where he lived.
Share a time when you received news about situations at home when you were not there. How did that news affect you emotionally, logistically? (i.e. Change of plans?)

Read Ezekiel 2:1-7; 3:17-21
What was Ezekiel’s primary role and function?
In 3:17 The Lord refers to Ezekiel as a “watchman.” What responsibilities does a watchman have? What is a watchman NOT responsible for? (see 3:11)
Read Ezekiel’s vision of the Glory of God in Babylon (Ez. 1)
What images come to mind when reading this vision? What symbolism do you see in these images with respect to who God is?
Generally, the angelic beings and the wheels in Ezekiel’s represent the place where the Spirit of the Lord resides. Ezekiel refers again to this image in Ezekiel 3:12: 3:23; 10:2-19; 11:22, 43:1-9
What is the purpose of the “beings with wheels” in each of these passages?
What is reassuring/troubling about Ezekiel’s vision for you?
What is reassuring/troubling about “God with us” every moment of our lives?
Read Ezekiel’s vision of the valley of dry bones (Ez 37:1-14)
This vision is given to Ezekiel as he prophesied about God’s restoration of His people and His promise to gather the exiles back in Jerusalem. Note that Ezekiel prophesizes three times (Ez. 37:5; 37:9; 37:12-14). For each prophecy discuss:
To what/whom did he prophecy?
What did the prophecy accomplish?
What was lacking after the prophecy happened?
Does this vision sequence have any parallels with our relationship with God? (Consider creation, sin, redemption, life, death, etc.)
Share creative ways you have experienced God’s truths communicated to you or to others.
What benefit/advantage is there in sharing God’s Word in creative ways?
What must we be mindful of when sharing the Gospel creatively?
